Procalcitonin Test

The Willi Fox Procalcitonin Rapid Test provides reliable information at an early stage as to whether a bacterial or viral infection is present:

• bacterial infections = positive (+) Procalcitonin rapid test result
• viral infections = negative (-) Procalcitonin rapid test result

In the process of differential diagnosis procalcitonin helps to differentiate between bacterial inflammations and viral infections or diseases of autoimmune origin.

Procalcitonin is a protein that appears in elevated concentrations in blood plasma in severe bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections, as well as in sepsis and multiple organ failure. Procalcitonin increases do not occur in viral infections, autoimmune and allergic diseases.
